Underwater Installation of Shoes on the Spuds

June 2025

Subsea Services Ltd is proud to have successfully completed the installation of custom-designed shoes on the spuds of the self-elevating platform Ngamia - a critical enhancement to support soil composition surveys in the coastal waters of Mombasa.

This specialized work was carried out on behalf of EFT Africa Ltd, whose self-elevating platform is used by OYO Corporation, a leading Japanese geotechnical firm.

The Ngamia platform plays a vital role in seabed investigations, enabling accurate and stable data collection in preparation for one of Kenya’s most transformative infrastructure projects: the Mombasa Gate Bridge.

This bridge will connect Mombasa Island to the mainland at Likoni, replacing the long-standing ferry system and easing congestion for thousands of daily commuters.

Once completed, it will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in Africa, spanning 1.4 km with a 69-meter clearance for maritime traffic. Backed by the Government of Kenya and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the project is expected to boost trade, tourism, and regional development.

We’re honoured to contribute to the early stages of this landmark initiative - where engineering excellence meets national progress.
